OPENING
On the day of Pentecost, Jesus fulfilled his promise to send the
Holy Spirit, or the Advocate (as he is also called), to his disciples. The Holy Spirit has been present since before
the beginning of the world, and we call him "the Lord, the giver of life." The Holy Spirit is the third person
of the Holy Trinity, and from him we receive the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, knowledge, right judgment,
courage reverence and wonder.
PSALM
When you send forth
your spirit, they are created.
O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made
them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
When you send forth your spirit, they are created.
READING
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John:
"I have told you this while I am still with you. The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will
send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you. Peace is what I leave with
you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not
be afraid." The Gospel of the Lord.
CLOSING PRAYER
Holy
Spirit, you give us life and you renew that life through your gifts of Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Strength,
Reverence, and Wonder. God our Father, send your Spirit of Truth, to help us see our need and ask you for the gifts
that will most renew and enlighten us. In your light, we can even see the Light of the world, Jesus Christ. Grant
this through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
